Police in the Brazilian state of Espirito Santo arrested this Friday afternoon a gunman who broke into two schools in the city of Aracruz this morning, killing three people and injuring 11. The man was arrested at his home in the same city and offered no resistance.
Agents got to the shooter after witnesses provided the last registration numbers of the vehicle he had used in the attacks and escape. The killer hid the license plate, but during the escape some of the plates were found without his knowledge, thanks to which the police were able to identify the car and the address of the suspect.
The identity of the shooter, who used a large-caliber automatic pistol and had several magazines filled with cartridges in his pockets, has not yet been disclosed, as well as the motives for the attack. Aracruz police said they would only provide further details after questioning the suspect, who may be a student or former student of one of the two schools that were attacked, and ascertaining whether he really acted alone or was assisted by other perpetrators.
Shortly before 10:00 this Friday local time, 13:00 in Lisbon, a gunman entered a public primary and secondary school where shooting had already taken place, ran into the teachers’ room and killed two teachers, injuring four others. Quickly leaving the scene in his car, the suspect stopped at another school, this time a private one, on the same street, and killed a student, injuring seven others in the fighting.
The combined forces of the entire region’s police force have begun clearing the roads, town and forests around Aracruz, a city of 100,000 people located 85 kilometers from the state capital of Vitoria. But in the end, the criminal was arrested at home, because, oddly enough, he went quietly behind the crimes.
