The reprogramming of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) will be presented this week and the government is leaving open the possibility of mobilizing loans up to a maximum limit of 11 billion euros, he added in response to Luce.
“The Portuguese government will this week present a draft reprogramming of the PRR, which includes the cost of additional loans, relating both to the new measures discussed with the public in April, and to the adequacy of projects and investments to increase prices due to inflation and martial law in Europe,” put forward in response to Luce the Ministry of the Presidium.
According to the government, Portugal has signaled to the European Commission that it “retains the ability to mobilize” the maximum credit limit, which corresponds to 11 billion euros.
The loan deadline ends on August 31st.
On Wednesday, the European Commission said Portugal had signaled its intention to request additional 3.3 billion euros in loans under the PRR, urging the country to “move forward at full speed” in the implementation.
“It is important to speed up the implementation [do PRR]including the RepowerEU measures, including in the context in which Portugal requested 3.3 billion euros in additional loans,” said Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice President of the European Commission with the portfolio “Economy at the service of the people”.
A European source at the time explained to Lusa that, under the PRR, Portugal expressed its “intention to request additional loans in the range of 3.3 to 11 billion euros” when revising the plan to include measures relating to the RepowerEU energy package.
Another source said that the country is more likely to choose 3,300 million euros, although the specific amount of additional loans will be known only after the official presentation to the European Commission.
A public consultation on a proposal for a budget increase of almost $2,400 million from the PRR received 150 contributions, with the energy and transport/mobility areas collecting most of them.
Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) beneficiaries received 1,847 million euros by May 17, an increase of 21,000 from the previous week, corresponding to 11% of the total, according to the latest monitoring report.
