Stuart Rhodes, leader of the far-right militant organization Oathkeepers, was sentenced this Thursday to 18 years in prison for conspiracy and other crimes related to the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol.
“For decades, Mr. Rhodes, it is clear that you wanted to see democracy in this country turn into violence,” said US District Judge Amit Mehta.
According to ReutersStuart Rhodes’ prison term is the longest sentence for any of the more than 1,000 people charged with the Capitol attack who wanted to prevent Congress from confirming Joe Biden’s election victory.
Prosecutors demanded a 25-year prison sentence for Stuart Rhodes.
