Defender Toti Gomes was a big surprise in Roberto Martinez’s squad for Portugal. The 24-year-old started playing football nine years ago and now plays in the Premier League.
At the age of 15, Toti Gomez switched from rugby to football and started playing for Fontañas in Cascais. Two years later, he left the club and moved to GDS Cascais.
The rise continued quickly and after four years of wearing football boots, the Bissau-born player headed to Estoril Praia.
The defender spends three years in Estoril, where he participates in the national championship. In the service of Canariños, Toti makes his debut for the main team. He only played three games in the Second Division, but attracted English Wolverhampton who signed him in 2020.
The athlete spent just over a season on loan with the Premier League team in the Swiss team Grasshoppers. In January 2022, Portuguese Bruno Lage, then Wolves manager, asked the defender to return to the English team.
Toti Gomes has already made 21 appearances in the Premier League, considered by many to be the best national football league. This Monday, Roberto Martinez called him into the qualifying team.
