The Judicial Police (PJ) have detained a 71-year-old man who has been “severely charged” with two robberies with firearms in the municipalities of Albufeira and Silves in the Algarve.
“The robberies took place on May 19 and 26 this year in a residential building and next to a catering establishment in the municipalities of Albufeira and Silves, where the accused, threatening him with a firearm, tried to withdraw money, bank cards and a large car worth tens of thousands of euros,” said in a statement to the joint venture.
After the arrest, the police were able to recover the used firearms, identical to those used by the police.
The detainee has an extensive criminal record for violent crimes and will be presented to the authorities for questioning and subsequent enforcement action.
