In 2020 and 2021, more Brazilians have managed to acquire Portuguese citizenship since 2010, bringing the total to over 100,000.
In 2010, about 24,000 Brazilians held Portuguese citizenship through assignment or acquisition. According to data published by the national press, in 2020 this number increased to 58 thousand, and last year there were about 49 thousand.
According to the President of the Casa do Brasil in Lisbon, Cynthia de Paula, the main reasons for the increase in the number of Brazilians with Portuguese citizenship are, in fact, the search for equal rights and an increased interest in participating in political life.
The fact that the Brazilian community in Portugal is showing a growth trend year on year as it is one of the main foreign nationalities living in the country means that according to Cynthia quoted by the National Press.
Since 2010, 388,000 Brazilians have been able to acquire Portuguese citizenship.
