UEFA announced this Friday that it has opened disciplinary proceedings against Roma head coach José Mourinho of Portugal for speaking out against English referee Anthony Taylor after the Europa League final lost to Sevilla.
Opening trial to the Portuguese coach is one of a long list of cases linked to Wednesday’s final, which the Spaniards won on penalties (4-1) after a 1-1 draw in regulation and extra time.
From the Roman side, Mourinho will be investigated for insults and “insults against the referee” after images of the coach who rebelled against Anthony Taylor, who was later harassed by fans at the Budapest airport, were released, still in the garage of the Puskas Arena.
Earlier at a press conference, the Portuguese coach had already criticized the work of the English referee and questioned several moves in the match, which showed 14 yellow cards, eight of which were for Italy.
Roma can also be punished for “team misbehavior”, public disorder, property damage, object throwing, and use of pyrotechnics.
As for the Spaniards, throwing objects, pyrotechnics and incorrect behavior of the team were added to the invasion of the fans at the venue of the game.
