The path of the sufferers can be long, turbulent and tortuous. These are people like Ana Sofia Teixeira, a social worker at the Fidelidade WeCare office, who help with the rehabilitation of people who have suffered serious accidents at work and who need clinical support, professional reintegration and the strength to live again.
One case that Ana Teixeira followed closely was that of the young Andre Almeida. At the age of 26, Andre was in a motorcycle accident. The clinical picture had a great influence: spinal cord injury and tetraplegia.
It was not easy to face a new way of life, adapted to physical limitations that did not exist before. Anna helped him. A social worker was there “from the very beginning” when André was released from the National Health Service until he was reintegrated into a rehabilitation center in Alcoitao.
“Being able to follow André’s process in all his conquests (…) was a privilege.”
The social worker oversaw the process and helped with social reintegration. Andre returned to the university and began to work. These were big steps towards a promising future that the young man never stopped dreaming about. This new reality was the result of his lust for life and the tireless work of the WeCare office.
For Ana, working as a social worker for an insurance company “is something innovative and different.” Minimizing the impact of the drastic and violent consequences of an accident is in the true spirit of WeCare. Daily work is always in this sense, with this goal: to help those in need.
“What makes me feel satisfied? The realization that people are able to start their journey anew, rebuild their lives, (…) that I was able to participate in the construction of a new life project.
