The Office for the Prevention and Combating of Violence in Sports (APCVD) announced on Tuesday that it had opened a trial for incidents at the end of the Sporting de Braga-Benfica futsal match held on Monday.
In a statement, the authorities announced the opening of a process “to determine responsibility for the offenses” and refer the case to the prosecutor’s office if the investigation results in “evidence of criminal offenses.”
A source at the Braga club confirmed to Luza the contempt between the players and members of the “staff” of both teams, which occurred shortly after the final whistle of the referee, at a time when elements of Benfica were celebrating their triumph and reaching the final.
As a result, the refereeing team showed red cards to members of both teams.
On Monday, Benfica secured their place in the final of the championship after beating Sporting de Braga 3-2 in the third game of the play-off semi-finals.
