Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez has been signed to Real Madrid, according to Spanish sports newspaper Marca. The midfielder has been on the lips of the world since he made his debut for Argentina at the World Cup in Qatar this Saturday.
Apparently, the Meringues are looking for reinforcements for midfield, and the Argentine is one of the options.
Priority will be Jude Bellingham, Borussia Dortmund’s No. 22, who Real Madrid have already been looking for since the summer market. Since then, however, Dortmund have proved difficult to negotiate and competition in the race for Bellingham has intensified, with Liverpool also considering a bid for the English player.
With that possible deal deadlocked, the Madrid club’s attention is now turning to Enzo Fernandez, who was already on Real Madrid’s radar as a River Plate player. He eventually moved to Benfica and has since scored three goals and provided five assists in 24 matches with an eagle on his chest.
His appearance in Argentina’s last World Cup game in Qatar against Mexico erased any doubts that still existed about his quality as a player, scoring the second goal of the winning team.
Its value on the market has risen in recent days and currently stands between 21 and 35 million euros. In the summer, Benfica paid 10m for the player, a sum that rose to 12m in his tenth game for the club and could reach 18m if certain targets are met.
With a release clause of €120m, Real Madrid are exploring the possibility of approaching the club and the player with an offer close to that value.
