Wildfires that have engulfed 60,000 hectares in northeastern Kazakhstan have killed 14 people, the Central Asian country’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said Saturday.
“A total of 14 bodies were recovered,” the ministry said in a statement quoted by AFP.
The authorities of Kazakhstan reported yesterday that they are looking for foresters trapped in the fires.
The situation is under control and the houses are not threatened by fire, although 316 people have been displaced, the ministry said, acknowledging the difficulties due to high temperatures and wind.
More than a thousand people were mobilized to fight the fire, mainly employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and Defense.
