More than five million viewers watched the Portugal-Uruguay match at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, according to Univesal McCann (UM).
This is the conclusion of the Mediabrands group’s audience analysis of the game played on Monday, in which Portugal won 2-0 thanks to goals from midfielder Bruno Fernandes and guaranteed qualification to the round of 16.
“RTP1 broadcast a game that was watched by 5.3 million people in total, with an average audience of 3.6 million and a 66% “share,” says Universal McCann, emphasizing that the broadcast of the controversy “on Sport TV is recorded in total. 296 thousand viewers, with an average audience of 188 thousand and a 3.5% share.
This amounted to “a total of 5.6 million viewers, an average of 3.8 million viewers and a 69.5% ‘share’ in cumulative terms,” adds UM.
He adds that the Portugal-Uruguay match “was the Portuguese game that has attracted the most spectators to date.”
“The transmission of this game through RTP1 had a big impact on the channel as it registered a ‘share’ of 24.5%, up 14.5 percentage points from the October average,” the same person in charge emphasized.
According to Universal McCann, “the second game of the Portuguese team attracted the most spectators compared to the second games of other championships such as Euro 2020 and the 2018 World Cup.”
According to UM, “there was an upward trend throughout the broadcast” and “particular attention from the Portuguese was attracted by the second part of the match, where two goals were scored by the Portuguese team, with the maximum peak of the audience approaching the final whistle.”
In the first game last week, almost four million people watched TVI’s broadcast of Portugal’s game against Ghana, in which the Portuguese team won 3-2.
TVI aired the debut game, which was watched by a total of 3.9 million people, with an average audience of 2.3 million and a “share” of 64.5%, which is now the second most watched game of the groups phase, followed by Brazil – Serbia. Argentina-Mexico and France-Australia.
