A 36-year-old man was seriously injured this Monday when an alleged pyrotechnic device exploded in Vale de Azor, in the municipality of Ponte de Sor (Portalegre), a civil protection source said.
A source at Alto Alentejo’s sub-regional emergency and civil protection agency told Lusa that the man was flown by helicopter from the National Institute for Emergency Medicine (INEM) to Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon.
According to him, the signal about the explosion, which occurred next to the football field in Vale de Azor, was received at 18:25.
A GNR source told Lusa that the man was “trying to destroy some fireworks” when the explosion occurred, sustaining “serious injuries”.
Firefighters from Ponte de Sor, INEM and GNR, a total of 17 operators, were mobilized to the scene, supported by six vehicles, including an immediate life support (IVS) ambulance from Ponte de Sor and a helicopter.
