Real Madrid’s Brazilian international Vinicius Jr has agreed to join FIFA’s anti-racism team, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said today.
The Brazilian striker, who was subjected to abuse and racist abuse during the season in Spain, will work in a team that is committed to minimizing this phenomenon.
“If there is racism, there is no football. Therefore, the games must stop,” Infantino said in a message published on the social network Instagram.
Vinicius Jr., according to the leader of the federation, will join this team, as well as “other important players”, in order to “develop concrete and effective measures to end racism in football once and for all.”
This is the second time FIFA has moved towards creating such a team, after it did so in 2013 due to racist slurs against Milan’s Kevin-Prince Boateng.
Boateng also worked with world football’s governing body until the team disbanded in 2016.
