Public schools drop in the overall rankings and only rank 39th.

Public schools have fallen in the rankings of the best averages in exams, with the first public school, located in the inner village and an hour from Colegio do Porto, now topping the table, in 39th place.

In Lusa’s list of 496 institutions averaging in the 2022 national high school exams, colleges stand out again, having to drop to 39th to find the first public school.

There is an eight-place drop from the previous year as the public school with the best average was in 31st place in 2021, according to data provided by the Ministry of Education.

Students from the village of Vouzela in Beira Alta achieved the highest score: 13.37, the average score from 130 exams taken at the Escola Secundária de Vouzela in 2022.

Vuzela broke the trend that the top places were invariably occupied by public schools located in the center of large cities, in elite neighborhoods where there are almost no students in need.

Thus Vouzela High School is ranked 1st, followed by three others that have been awarded several times, such as D. Philip de Lencastre in Lisbon, Infanta D. Maria in Coimbra or Restelo High School in Lisbon. .

In addition to lowering the overall rankings, the scores also dropped slightly, with an average score of 13.37 for Vuzele, while the António Arroyo Art School in Lisbon topped the previous year with an average score of 13.58. .

An hour by car and almost three values separate Vouzela High School from the Grande Colégio Universal in the city of Porto, which this year ranks 1st in the overall standings, dethroning Colégio Efanor, which had the best national average the previous year (16 , 16 points on 107 exams).

This year, an average score of 16.37 points in 184 exams taken by the students of the Grande Colégio Universal gave him 1st place, followed by Colégio Efanor in Matosinhos (16.3 points), Colégio Dom Diogo de Sousa in Braga (16 points). ). , and the Colégio Nossa Senhora do Rosário in Porto (15.91), which returned to 4th place after years of being the best in the Lusa rankings.

Again, high school students again had better average results last year, with the national average for private schools at 12.9 and for public schools at 11.2.

At the end of the overall table, there are nine public schools and only one private, and if among the top 10 schools the majority are in the north of the country, then among the 10 worst schools, eight are in the Lisbon metropolitan area, with the exception of a secondary school in Coimbra and another in the Azores.

Once again, the north has the best regional averages: Porto is at the top of the table (12 values), taking the place that in recent years belonged to Viana do Castelo, which now occupies 2nd place (11.8 values). ), followed by Braga (11.75 points), Viseu (11.73 points) and Coimbra (11.6 points).

Lisbon, the area with the most students and almost 50,000 exams passed, moved up three positions to 7th place (11.5 points).

Once again, the average scores of students who took tests abroad were the lowest (9.9 points), but this time there is an increase in the average score of students from the Azores (10.9), which is usually the worst national region, and in this year looks better than Portalegre (10.8), Setubal (10.7) and Beja (10.7).
