Continent and Madeira are at very high risk of exposure to UV radiation

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), all areas of the Portuguese mainland and the Madeira archipelago pose a very high risk of exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UV) this Friday.

On Saturday, mainland Portugal and the Madeira archipelago will remain with very high levels of exposure to this radiation.

In the Azores, the island of Flores (western group) currently has high levels, while Faial and Terceira (central group) and São Miguel (eastern group) pose a moderate risk.

On Saturday Flores Island will pose a moderate risk, Terceira and Faial high and San Miguel very high.

The UV radiation scale has five levels, ranging from extreme to low risk.

For very high risk regions, IPMA recommends the use of UV-protected sunglasses, a hat, a T-shirt, an umbrella, sunscreen, and keeping children out of the sun.
