Having already won a bronze medal at the Grand Slam tournaments in Tel Aviv, Tashkent and Antalya this season, Patricia Sampaio, ranked 11th in the world rankings, reached the final in her category for the first time, losing to the current 153rd world ranking, she has already climbed twice Grand Slam podium in 2019.
To reach the final, the Portuguese knocked out the Latvian Una Dolgilevich (70th place in the ranking), the Russian Alexandra Babintseva (28th place) and the Frenchwoman Madeleine Malonga (10th place).
Another Portuguese player competing today, Rochelle Nunez, 13th in the ranking, beat Russia’s Maria Ivanova (unranked) in the first round +78 kg, but missed out on reaching the semi-finals, losing to the Dutch Marit Kamps (15th). ).
