The NCIS is running a mega operation across the country due to shellfish crime, illegal shellfish fishing, human trafficking, illegal labor and document forgery. Five people have already been arrested.
More than 150 NCIS officers, a team from the Tactical Action Group, are involved in the mega-operation. The operation is carried out in close cooperation with the State Information Service, PSP, Tax Inspectorate and SEF.
The mega operation aims to expose exploited immigrants. The investigation began around 7 am. About 300 immigrants are under investigation.
The main goal is to be able to identify immigrants who are involved in the shellfish trade and collection network, how they were brought to Portugal, how they work and in what conditions they live.
