The NCIS is conducting a mega operation across the country to crack down on criminal networks linked to illegal catching, trading and international trafficking of bivalve molluscs. Four people have already been arrested.
The mega-operation involves 161 officers of the marine police, a team from the tactical action group. The operation is carried out with the close cooperation of the State Information Service, PSP, tax service and SEF.
According to KM, the immigrants kept the clams in a warehouse in Alcochet to later ship them to Europe. It functioned as a nerve center. The warehouse was discovered using SIS. The material was loaded by the National Maritime Administration for about an hour. This was reported by a member of the Maritime Police. cm and said that it is still being investigated where all the material removed from the warehouse goes.
In Montijo, in another warehouse, there were 50 Asian immigrants. The owner’s lawyer mentions that his voter has nothing to do with shellfish, he only rented out rooms to immigrants. The owner was not arrested.
The mega operation aims to expose exploited immigrants. The investigation began around 7 am. The SEF has identified 243 immigrants and notified nine to investigate the situation within the country, according to the NCIS.
The main goal is to be able to identify immigrants who are involved in the shellfish trade and collection network, how they were brought to Portugal, how they work and in what conditions they live.
