Chega’s parliamentary group demanded this Wednesday an urgent hearing before the Health Committee of the former director of the Service of Gynecology and Obstetrics of the Santa Maria Hospital and the director of obstetrics.
In addition to Diogo Aires de Campos and Luisa Pinto, who were sacked on Monday, the party, in a request to which Lusa had access, is also demanding a hearing from the chairman of the board of directors of the same hospital, Ana Paula Martins.
In the document, Chega substantiates the request for a hearing to clarify concerns “recently brought to the public” by doctors from Santa Maria Hospital’s Emergency OB/GYN/Maternity Department (UOG/BP) regarding the birth plan. obstetrics and gynecology answer.
On Monday, the Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Norte (CHLN) announced its decision to remove the leadership of the Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine Department (which includes Diogo Aires de Campos and the Director of Obstetrics, Luisa Pinto).
At the time, CHLN claimed that the department’s leadership was in positions that “repeatedly called into question the work design and process of collaboration with San Francisco Xavier Hospital during the work of the new maternity hospital at HSM. [Hospital Santa Maria]”.
It is envisaged that while Santa Maria Hospital’s maternity ward is closed for work – in August and September – services will be concentrated at the San Francisco Xavier Hospital (Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Oeste), which has closed on a rotational basis on weekends, and from 1 August it will be open again seven days a week.
The resignation from the leadership of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine came after more than 30 doctors of this service sent a letter to the administration asking for conditions of safety and dignity when traveling to San Francisco Xavier and expressing their concerns.
In a letter sent to the administration midway through this month, doctors are equally concerned about installed capacity at San Francisco Xavier, acknowledging that there could be overcrowding.
This Wednesday, a group of doctors from the Gynecology and Obstetrics Service of Santa Maria Hospital asked for the reassignment of the head of the department and the head of obstetrics, insisting on “full confidence” in these specialists.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Chega President Andre Ventura had already questioned the government about the dismissal of Diogo Aires de Campos, accusing the government of trying to silence critics.
André Ventura felt that the director had been relieved of his duties “for questioning the hospital’s restructuring process” and announced that he had approached the Ministry of Health for clarification on the process.
In his statement, Chega refers to a letter, first signed by Diogo Aires de Campos, which reported concerns about the work and concentration of services at the San Francisco Xavier Hospital.
And he says it needs to be clarified if there is any possible pressure the administration is putting on doctors to cooperate with the plan.
