“Despite a good European career and good exhibition quality, we were unable to materialize that quality of play in points and trophies, finishing below our expectations and not for reasons external to the club. An internal analysis was carried out, lessons learned. I found out and planning for the new season is already underway and with the expectation of a return to the sporting successes of the recent past,” Frederico Varandas, President of Sporting, said this Saturday in his opening speech at the General Assembly of Sporting.
At a large meeting, club members approved the budget and activity plan for 2023/24, as well as reports for the last five years (from 2017/18 to 2021/22) with an error of about 72-75 percent (each era had a specific point).
The club’s leader also revealed that Sporting CP broke the record for the most current contribution members for the third year in a row, as well as the record for contribution income. “For the first time we have exceeded 10 million,” he said. He also announced major innovations at the José Alvalade Stadium in the coming years.
