Portugal will represent 27 athletes in six sports at the inaugural European Paralympic Championships, which will be held from August 8 to 20 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the Portuguese Paralympic Committee (CPP) announced on Tuesday.
CPP Secretary General Carlos López will lead the Portuguese delegation to the championship, which will be held at the Rotterdam Ahoy.
Portugal will be represented in six of the 10 sports: 10 athletes in bocce, four in badminton, judo and cycling, three in shooting and two in wheelchair tennis.
1,500 athletes from 45 countries are expected to take part in the competition ahead of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, which will be held from 28 August to 8 September next year.
List of 27 called up:
– Badminton (4): Beatriz Monteiro, Bruno Faria, Diogo Daniel and Inoi Ferreira.
– Boccia (10): Ana Catarina Correia, Ana Sofia Costa, Andre Ramos, Armando Costa, Carla Oliveira, Cristina Goncalves, David Araujo, José Abilio Goncalves, Nuno Guerreiro and Rita Patricio.
– Cycling (4): Bernardo Vieira, Flavio Pacheco, Luis Costa and Telmo Pinao.
– Judo (4): Gibrilo Iafa, Miguel Vieira, Nuno Rocha and Ruben Gonçalves.
– Wheelchair tennis (2): Carlos Leitao and Joao Cuseiro.
– Frame (3): Adelino Rocha, Bruno Valentim and Margarida Lapa.
