The first stage of the Giro Donne 2023 has been canceled This Friday June 30 due to heavy rain which fell at noon in Chianciano. For this reason, the organization made the decision to cancel the inaugural stage.
The women’s Giro d’Italia had to start with a time trial, and it did. Some runners went out to perform the ‘chrono’but the test had to be stopped several timesdue to strong storms.
Some cyclists, those who started first, were able to finish the tour; among them, the current champion and favorite for the final victory Annemiek van Vleuten. The one from Movistar marked the best provisional time (5:42), but 100 runners were left without taking the start.
In the end, the organization had no choice but to cancel the stage, so it wasn’t worth any timeand the Giro Donne will officially start on Saturday, July 1.
