The Assembly of the Republic this Friday approved condolences on the death of actor Luis Aleluja, who passed away last week at the age of 63, remembering him as “one of the Portuguese actors most appreciated by the public”.
The initiative presented by the SDP parliamentary group was unanimously approved at the plenary session of the parliament.
“Luis Aleluya, one of the most beloved Portuguese actors by the public, is unanimously considered a ‘good man and a great comedian’ as he has received several awards, mainly for his acting work, but he was also the author, director and producer of the show,” it says. in the initiative.
In addition to being a “famous artist,” the text continues, “Luis Aleluja also gave the best of himself to others, namely through his commitment and dedication to the Casa do Artista project, which today is a noble reality in helping actresses and actors. at the end of a career.”
The text states that the memory of Luis Aleluja “will last as ‘the Tonecas boy'”, a character he played in the RTP series “As Lições do Tonecas” and marked his artistic career.
“The owner of a long career, Luis Aleluja has played several comedic roles in theater and television over more than 40 years, however, as he was able to say, he saw drama as his ‘biggest problem’,” it wrote. .
Luis Filipe Aleluia da Costa was born in Setúbal on February 23, 1960 to a separated and poor family that brought him to Casa do Gaiato, his homeland, where he lived for seven years and where he learned “values that last a lifetime” as he said in an interview with Manuel Luis Gouche on TVI in 2021, when he completed 40 years of his career: loyalty, brotherhood, complicity, “the value of work, respect for the freedom of others”.
The taste for the stage began in childhood, in the 1960s and 1970s, with gala concerts at the Casa do Gaiato and performances in various amateur bands, followed by professionalization, at the turn of the 1980s, at the Teatro de Animação de Setúbal (TAS) . .
His greatest success came in 1996 when he revived “As Lições do Tonecas” with actor José Morais and Castro on RTP, and converted an old 1930s-1940s radio program by José de Oliveira Cosme into a four-season, 50-episode production.
