House of Vincent Jeanbrin, mayor L’Ail-le-Rose was occupied and vandalized on Saturday evening during protests in France over the death of a 17-year-old. The protesters even threw a car at the mayor’s house. He himself condemned the situation on social media.
“Yesterday [sábado], a new level of horror and shame has been reached. My home was attacked and my family was the victim of an attempted murder,” Janbrun tweeted.
One group allegedly threw an armored personnel carrier at the house and then set it on fire. According to the mayor, the attack took place around 1:30 am. Vincent Jeanbrin was not at home at the time, but his wife and two small children were injured.
The suspects were not arrested. French police on Sunday launched an investigation into the attempted murder, according to A.P News.
The last few days in France have been marked by anger over the death of 17-year-old Nahel. A young man died on Tuesday after being shot dead by a police officer during Operation STOP in Nanterre, on the outskirts of Paris. The moment was captured on video and shared on social media.
The strong resistance of the population results in riots and violence. There are already records of thousands being detained over five nights of protests.
