Belgian Jasper Filipsen (Alpecin) won the sprint this Monday at Stage 3 of the Tour de France, on a course that started in Spain (Amorebieta-Echano) and ended in France (Bayonne).
The 193.5 km section did not have a special plot. The breakout of the day featured North American Neilson Pauless (Education), who added a few more points to the top of the mountain jersey, and France’s Laurent Pichon (Arquea). The escape was controlled by the peloton and was neutralized with about 30 kilometers to go, with the fastest men’s teams in time to prepare for the sprint finish. And so it happened. The “train” of the Alpecin team did not give the competition a chance, and Jasper Philipsen was the first to cross the finish line, ahead of the German Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain). 25-year-old Philipsen won the Tour stage for the third time. No change in the individual standings, with Adam Yates (UAE) leading, Tadej Pogacar (UAE) second, 6 seconds back and Simon Yates third, 12 seconds back. Rubén Guerreiro (Movistar) is 55th, Rui Costa (Intermarché) is 68th and Nelson Oliveira (Movistar) is 70th.
