Belgian cyclist Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin) returned on Tuesday to be the strongest in the sprint and won stage four of the Tour de France in a frenetic, track-contested final marked by several falls.
On the 181.8 km route that connected Dax with Nogaro and was completed at a leisurely pace, all teams conserved energy for the final part. Thus, the last 20 kilometers were covered at high speed, with the sprint race specialists trying to get into the right position on the track where the finish line was set. There, Jasper Philipsen was again the strongest for the second day in a row, beating Caleb Yuen (Lotto) and Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain).
There has been no change in the general classification and Adam Yates (UAE) remains in the yellow zone with a six second lead over teammate Tadej Pogacar. Rubén Guerreiro (Movistar) is 51st, Nelson Oliveira (Movistar) is 66th and Rui Costa (Intermash) is 77th. On this Wednesday, the peloton enters the Pyrenees and the high mountains. The 168 km section from Pau to Laruns will have a special mining record and the first category.
