Two of the five suspects of extortion, theft and drug trafficking arrested on Friday in Albufeira, Faro district, will be in custody, the GNR said on Monday.
Faro’s National Republican Guard (GNR) Territorial Command said in a statement that the Faro Judicial Court also ruled that three other suspects were required to report to authorities every two weeks.
The suspects, four men and one woman, aged between 22 and 39, were arrested as part of an extortion and theft investigation launched three months ago by the Núcleo de Investigação Criminal (NIC) in Albufeira.
The GNR memo states that with the arrest of the suspects, “an important and structured network operating in the region was dismantled.” [do Algarve]especially in the municipalities of Albufeira, Loulé, Faro and Portimão.”
During police searches of houses and vehicles, the military seized 4,693 doses of cocaine, 185 doses of hashish, 37 doses of MDMA, 28 doses of cannabis, firearms, 48 ammunition, communications equipment and 1,000 euros.
Several items used in the manufacture and packaging of drugs were also seized, and items made of gold were seized, the Guard said in a note.
