The club licensing process is “totally transparent,” an official from the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) told Lusa on Monday following an injunction filed by Maritimo with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAD).
“The licensing process is completely transparent and all clubs who wish to do so have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the application processes. The Portuguese League is not commenting on any club’s intentions regarding this process,” said a Liga official contacted by Lusa. agency.
This Monday, TAD published Maritimo’s request for an injunction against the LPFP, which puts the licensing of the newly promoted Estrela da Amadora for the 2023/24 season at stake, a request that was filed last Friday.
Based on the request, the islanders argue that the share capital of the Estrela da Amadora, the formation that defeated the Madeirans in the playoffs for promotion to the I league and lowered them to the second level, does not meet the requirements of the legal regime of sports societies.
According to the clarification provided by the professional football oversight body, “all application processes have been reviewed and approved by the Audit Committee established by Decree 50/2013 of 13 February, which confirms the technical licensing assumptions in a completely autonomous and independent way” .
“It consists of highly qualified coaches appointed not only by the Portuguese League, but also by the Portuguese Football Federation, the Union of Professional Footballers and the National Association of Football Coaches, and only the Portuguese League agrees to this opinion. etc.,” the source said.
With this action, the emblem of Madeira is intended to prevent the presence of Estrel da Amador in professional competition, even after the “tricolor” received a license from the LPFP, which included a club that had now risen to the top tier of the I league draw. and the Cup of Turns.
The first official game scheduled for Estrela da Amador will take place in Portimonense on July 23 as part of the first stage of the League Cup, and in the first round of the championship, scheduled for the weekend of August 12 and 13, the Club from Lisbon will host Vitoria de Guimarães.
Maritimo will make their League Cup debut on 22 July in Wiesel before starting the second league at the home of rivals Nacional.
The new legal regime for sports societies was approved by the government in January last year, and most recently, in June, by the Assembly of the Republic.
