The bronze statue of D. Dinis, which is almost half a century old, was accidentally knocked over by the workers of a construction company in Orik.
The incident occurred on Monday morning and caused potentially irreversible structural damage to the work of sculptor Lagoa Henriquez.
After the fall of the pedestal, the statue “was carefully packed and transported to the municipal shipyard, where it will remain until conservation and restoration can be carried out.”
The information was disseminated by the municipality responsible for the work in the center of the village handed over to the construction company. One of the workers was driving a car that crashed into a sculpture considered one of the most important in Lagoa Henriquez’s career.
The House of Orica guarantees that “an intervention will be carried out as soon as possible so that one of the symbols of our municipality returns to its original place with the dignity it deserves.” Who will pay for the repair, is not reported.
