Saudi club Al-Nasr, which owns Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo and Portuguese coach Luis Castro, cannot sign players until it pays off its debts, FIFA said this Thursday.
According to FIFA, the Saudi team is “currently unable to register new players due to outstanding debts” and the sanctions applied will be lifted as soon as “creditors confirm the missing payments”.
In the event of non-payment and in accordance with FIFA rules, Al-Nasr, which recently hired Portuguese coach Luis Castro from Botafogo (Brazil), risks losing the ability to register players for up to three seasons.
In October 2021, FIFA ordered Al-Nasr to pay English club Leicester €460,000 plus interest in a dispute over the transfer of Nigerian Ahmed Mousa, completed for a total of €18 million.
