The monumental work “Substratum” by the Portuguese artist Vils was unveiled this Wednesday at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. Prime Minister António Costa said Wils’ work is “a unique piece of work”.
“This is a unique work that Portugal is donating to UNESCO. Wils is an artist who uses the city as a canvas and carves walls all over the world, always paying close attention to local reality. We can turn a street in Shanghai, Kiev, Rio de Janeiro, Sydney, Dubai or Cape Verde and find an expressive and monumental face on the facade of a building that looks at us and seems to come to life,” the prime minister said during the opening of work at UNESCO . gardens.
A 31-metre-high mural by Portuguese artist Alexandre Farto, known as Wils, was unveiled this Wednesday as one of the hottest works in the gardens of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) headquarters, right in front of the statue of the British sculptor Henry Moore.
This project has been in preparation for six years, but only a few weeks ago it began to be sculpted.
