The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has filed a case against the Uruguayan Football Federation (AUF) and football players José María Jiménez, Cavani, Muslera and Godin for violations in connection with the match against Ghana at the 2022 World Cup.
In the last matchday of Group H, Uruguay managed to win 2-0 thanks to goals from De Arrascaet in the 26th and 31st minutes, but he was eliminated from the round of 16 on a tie-break between goals scored and conceded with South Korea finishing with the score 4-4, and the South Americans with a score of 2-2.
The disciplinary process currently open concerns violations of Articles 11, which deal with abusive behavior and violations of the principles of “fair play”, 12 on the misconduct of players or officials, and 13 on discrimination.
After the game with Ghana, the South American footballers protested to the German referee Daniel Siebert and the video referee, during which Jimenez attacked the FIFA representative and insulted the refereeing team, and Cavani threw the VAR monitor to the side of the floor.
Uruguay has already filed complaints in the game with Portugal, namely in relation to a fine, with Federation officials testifying that FIFA itself made a mistake in evaluating the application.
Coach Diego Alonso also said that the team withdrew from the World Cup due to an unnoticed penalty in their favor against Ghana and a poor score in the game they lost to Portugal.
“We had a penalty [por marcar, com o Gana] and in the game against Portugal, FIFA told us that they had made a mistake. So we left. Not because of the draw with South Korea, but because of the penalty against Portugal,” said Diego Alonso.
