A 72-year-old man was seriously injured in a skid followed by a rollover of a cargo van in the Azerveira area on the EN 114 motorway connecting Almeyrim and Koruch.
The accident was reported at 16:39. A dozen Almeirim fire operatives, an INEM ambulance and an evacuation vehicle and GNR came to the rescue.
An elderly man driving a van was taken to a hospital in Santarém.
The victim was stabilized in place after being pulled from the van where he was imprisoned. The vehicle was moving without any load.
During the rescue work, the road was closed to traffic in both directions for almost an hour.
The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Núcleo de Investigação Criminal de Accidentes de Viação de GNR.
