The two dead, aged 20 and 21, and the same number seriously injured, aged 21 and 47, were the result of a violent head-on collision this Friday afternoon on IC6 in Sant Martinho da Cortica, in the municipality of Arganil.
The two fatal victims who were traveling in the same vehicle are two boys who studied at the Oliveira do Hospital. Seriously injured, also men, were in another car involved in the accident.
“We had to carry out evacuation maneuvers to extract the dead, which took about 15 minutes,” said Fernando Gonçalves, commander of the Arganil fire department.
The death was confirmed on the spot by an INEM doctor, who called in a team of psychologists to support the relatives of the victims.
The head-on collision that occurred at 19:04 occurred on a curved area.
The rescue operations involved 20 firefighters from Arganil and Kokhi, INEM and GNR, who are investigating the causes of the accident. During operations, IC6 was cut off in both directions.
