FC Porto now holds two club world titles. FIFA has decided to recognize teams that won the Intercontinental Cup between 1960 and 2004 as champions.
FC Porto has won the trophy twice, pitting the winner of the European Cup/Champions League against the winner of the Copa Libertadores.
The Portuguese team won their first trophy in 1987 when they beat Peñarol 2-1 after extra time.
In 2004, the blue and white team faced the Colombian team Once Caldas and again won the Intercontinental Cup, winning the tie-break on penalties (8-7) after 120 minutes of play without goals.
After 43 editions, the competition was eventually replaced by the Club World Cup.
