According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the Faro area is under an orange warning, the second most severe due to heat waves, a situation that will continue until early Sunday morning.
The south coast of Madeira Island and the island of Porto Santo are also under an orange warning due to hot weather until early Sunday morning, according to IPMA.
The mountainous areas of Madeira and the north coast are classified as yellow (third most severe) due to high temperatures.
Also due to the persistence of high temperatures, the IPMA placed the Bragança and Guarda areas under a yellow warning until 11 pm on Friday, leaving the warning active until at least the end of the day on Saturday in Castelo Branco, Portalegre. Evora and Beja.
In the Azores, the islands of the Eastern Group (Santa Maria and São Miguel) are also under a yellow warning, but due to rain.
This Thursday, IPMA predicts a decrease in minimum temperatures, especially on land, and a slight increase in maximum temperatures along the coast of the southern region, especially in the eastern Algarve. In the afternoon there will be a northwesterly wind, strong in places along the coastal strip south of Cabo Espichel.
In terms of temperature, the minimum temperature will range from 14ºC (Bragança, Vila Real, Guarda and Viseu) to 22ºC (Faro), while the maximum temperature will range from 24ºC (Viana do Castelo) to 38ºC (Faro).
