More than 250 operatives and 17 air assets extinguish the fire in Braganza.

The forest fire that broke out this Thursday at the end of the morning in Argoselo, in the municipality of Vimioso, district of Braganca, is being extinguished by 242 operatives supported by 84 vehicles. More than 15 aircraft are involved in the fire.

The sub-regional commander for emergencies and civil protection, Terras de Tras os Montes, said this Thursday that 90% of the perimeter of the fire that broke out at the end of the morning in the municipality of Vimioso, in the region of Bragança, is stabilizing.

“At that time [22:45] The fire that broke out in Argoselo has stabilized, but we still have a few hot spots and a few scattered fires that will require cleanup throughout the night,” said João Noel Afonso.

The fire that broke out at the end of the morning in Argoselo, in the municipality of Vimioso, at the end of the day had two active fronts that even worried the firefighters, namely the one that was heading towards the village of Vale de Pena, being practically “dominated” at that time.

João Noel Afonso also said that he was waiting for the air assets at dawn on Friday, arguing that they are important for the consolidation of many acres of burnt land and hard-to-reach places where the fire was already under control.

“Air assets are always needed, even if there is no active front of fire, and they are important for the consolidation of hot spots that are still felt along the perimeter of the fire,” said the sub-regional commander of Tras os Montes.

The fire control at Argoselo also involved Spanish assets, consisting of fifty operatives, nine aircraft, four vehicles and four tracked vehicles.

Tracked vehicles still operate on the ground to open firebreaks and control the flames of firefighters on foot or with the support of forest fire engines.
