Belgian international goalkeeper Thibault Courtois, a Real Madrid player, underwent successful surgery this Thursday for a torn ACL in his left knee, the Spanish Football League club said.
Real Madrid said Courtois would “begin the recovery process in the coming days”, without specifying the expected time of inactivity for the regular goalkeeper, who could be out of competition for almost the entire 2023/24 season.
The long absence of the 31-year-old Belgian, who suffered an injury in training, has led Real Madrid to sign Spanish international goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea this season.
Like Courtois, the Merengues have also lost Brazilian international defender Eder Militao, a former Porto player who suffered a similar injury at the start of the Spanish Liga on Saturday and is expected to undergo surgery soon.
