Diogo Ribeiro breaks 100m freestyle record and 47 second low barrier

Swimmer Diogo Ribeiro returned this Sunday to improve the national record in the 100m freestyle in the final round of the National Junior and Senior Championships in Leiria, a competition marked by 11 all-time maximums.

The Benfica swimmer was the first Portuguese to break the 47-second mark, swimming the first stage of the 4×100 freestyle in 46.65 seconds, beating the previous record held by him since the first day of the championship in Leiria (47.16).

“Of course, I already aspired to these marks. This is my conversion time for the long pool. I may not have reached it yet, but I took those 100 free kicks in great shape with a score of 46.65. I couldn’t have wished for better. ” said Diogo Ribeiro.

The Benfica player admitted that he came to these competitions “still in a very quiet period of training”, and the coaches left him “mentally a little freer”, and what was done in Leiria “was also the result of psychological results”.

The swimmer claims that he “could not have wished for a better resumption of the season” and that “racing and training have always been the focus”, ensuring that as far as it depends on him, if he is allowed to, he will be “psychologically free, which is the most the most important thing for an athlete.

“We should not put too much pressure on the athletes. If we made it to a good result in the free form and if we did it well, I think we should stay free because we are going to continue the good work, ”the swimmer explained.

Benfica’s four – Diogo Ribeiro, Miguel Marquez, Diogo Costa and Miguel Nascimento – broke the absolute national record with a score of 3:12.81 minutes. The previous maximum already belonged to Benfica with a score of 3.15.63.

Also noted in the final round of the Leiria championship are the absolute records of Gabriel Lopez in the 100 meters backstroke (50.82 seconds), Ana Piño Rodriguez in the 50 meters breaststroke (30.21) and Mariana Cunha in the 100 meters styles. (1.01.48 min.).
