Twenty-seven people displaced in Seixal

The Municipality of Seixal in the District of Setúbal has so far registered 95 bad weather incidents in the municipality and reported the displacement of 27 people.

In a note sent to Lusa’s agency, the municipality explains that 27 displaced persons are escorted by municipal services in a temporary reception area.

Of these 27 displaced persons, 17 are residents of the Muxito area, between Cruz de Pau and the center of Corroyos, whose houses were damaged by flooding and who were temporarily accommodated in the Cruz de Pau Leisure Club.

In a note, the mayor’s office does not provide more information about the remaining 10 evacuees.

According to the municipality of Seixal, the municipality “through the Municipal Civil Protection Service, in cooperation with other municipal services and due to adverse weather conditions, accompanied by heavy rainfall and strong winds, immediately responded to floods in the urban environment and others, as well as special attention to the protection of housing , circulation and well-being of our population”.

Intense and incessant rain that fell at dawn on Tuesday caused hundreds of accidents, including floods, tree falls and cuts to roads in the areas of Lisbon, Setúbal and Portalegre, where there are records of several evacuees.

In the Lisbon area, weather conditions have hampered entry into the city, prompting authorities to urge people to stay at home if possible and limit travel as much as possible.

In the Santarem region, rain increased the flow of the Tagus River, prompting the District Commission for Civil Protection to initiate a Special Action Plan in the event of flooding in the Tagus Basin, given the “very significant” risk of overflowing the river’s banks. A yellow alert has been activated in this hydrographic basin and in the Douro.

In Campo Maiore, in the district of Portalegre, the lower part of the village and several houses were flooded, some of which were flooded to the ceiling, according to the city council, which plans to launch a municipal civil protection emergency plan.
