The President of the Republic announced on Tuesday that he would pass the Constitutional Court-approved drug law, stressing that Parliament was at odds with the government on the “delicate issue of determining the quantity of drugs in possession.”
“The President of the Republic, after the decision of the Constitutional Court to ignore the position of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, thus clarifying the issue that was important for the application of the diploma, will proceed to promulgate it as soon as directed to him by the Decree that clarifies the regime of sanctions against storage of drugs for consumption regardless of quantity and establishes regular deadlines for updating regulations”, can be read on the official website of the President of the Republic.
Despite the decision to pass the law, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa draws “attention to the fact that the Assembly of the Republic disagreed with the government on the delicate issue of determining the amount of drugs in the possession of anyone who should be considered a simple user or an effective dealer.”
