According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), another 40 municipalities in the districts of Faro, Castelo Branco, Viseu, Santarém, Coimbra and Guarda pose the highest risk of rural fires this Thursday.
The IPMA has also placed over 100 municipalities in the districts of Braga, Vila Real, Bragança, Viseu, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Santarém, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Beja and Faro at very high risk.
This Thursday, other municipalities in all districts of the mainland face a high risk of fire.
Due to weather conditions, the risk of fire in some municipalities will continue until at least Saturday.
This risk, defined by IPMA, has five levels, from low to high. Calculations are based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and rainfall over the last 24 hours.
IPMA predicts cloudy or clear skies on the mainland this Thursday, moderate winds on the west coast, sometimes strong in the afternoon south of Cabo da Roca, and a slight increase in maximum temperature, except for the eastern Algarve, where there will be a descent.
The minimum temperature will range from 12 degrees Celsius (in Bragança) to 21 degrees Celsius (in Faro), and the maximum will be from 23 degrees Celsius (in Aveiro) to 35 degrees Celsius (in Évora and Beja).
