By taking the lead in August, SIC manages to remain the most viewed channel in Portugal for 55 consecutive months. With a share of 14%, the channel from Paso de Arcos again outpaced its main competitor TVI, which had 13.5% and RTP1 was at 10.1%. The Quelos de Baixo Canal, still far from reaching the summit, reduced the distance to SIC by 0.1% as it remained at 0.6% in July.
In August, marked by World Youth Day (WYD), the visit of the Pope to Portugal, the visit of Marcelo Rebelo de Souza to Ukraine and the start of the main Portuguese football competition, there is a common factor regarding the three universal channels: all fell compared to the previous month – SIC (14.6%), TVI (14%) and RTP1 (10.5%), making it the worst result of the year.
Quite a different way, for example, from CMTVwhich, despite being on a cable platform, was up 0.7% month-on-month and achieved the best result of 2023.
But after returning to SIC’s lead in August, Paço de Arcos won almost every time of the day, from morning to prime time, namely prime time (between 20:00 and midnight), running through the afternoon.
“Salve-se Quem Puder”, presented by Diana Chavez and Marco Horacio, became the most watched entertainment program on Portuguese television in August. Information spaces such as “Jornal da Noite” and “Primeiro Jornal” also benefited in their charts, helping to secure this lead.
