A 61-year-old Portuguese motorcyclist died this Saturday in an accident on the A62 highway in Spain. He was a paratrooper, originally from Barcelos, and was going to go to France.
The accident occurred at 20:47 between Vilar Formoso and Salamanca, on the 344th kilometer of the A62 motorway in the direction of Salamanca. Several aids were sent to the scene, but the victim could not resist the severe injuries he received. Death was pronounced on the spot.
According to local media reports, Joaquim Cardoso lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into the rails, instantly dying.
The motorcyclist was from Barcelos, from where he left on Saturday afternoon to return to Montpellier, France, where he resided.
Joaquim Cardoso left several children. The body will be autopsied this Monday in Salamanca and then transported to Portugal. The funeral, which has not yet been scheduled, will take place in Vila Frescainha (San Martinho), Barcelos.
