The president of the International Olympic Committee (COP) this Wednesday showed himself “confident” and “optimistic” about hosting the Paris 2024 games on the Seine River after poor water quality recently forced the cancellation of test events.
“There is still almost a year left before the Olympic Games, everyone is working on this great task. I am very confident that everything will be successful at the Games,” said Thomas Bach.
The IOC leader recalled that “nothing has been banned on the Seine for a long time” and assured that he was confident in the project, which “also intends to take the Parisians to the Seine for leisure.”
In August, three test events for the Paris 2024 Games were canceled due to poor water quality in the Seine River.
Meanwhile, organizers of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games assured in a statement that water quality “will be improved until next year when additional infrastructure comes into operation to better manage rainwater and wastewater.”
These public facilities include a gigantic underground reservoir in Paris that will store excess water during storms so it won’t have to be dumped into the river without treatment and can be cleaned up later.
The Seine River, which will be the epicenter of the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Games, will host open water swimming competitions, as well as triathlon and paratriathlon swimming competitions.
The next Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024 in Paris, followed by the Paralympic Games from August 28 to September 8.
