The Bayan Volunteer Firefighters Humanitarian Association is campaigning to raise funds to purchase a new ambulance. The cost of the car is about 60 thousand euros.
The need to purchase a new ambulance is due to the fact that two ambulances serviced by the corporation, one 12 years old and the other 16 years old, have a number of mechanical problems that are very expensive to repair.
“We have four ambulances, but two of them are 16 and 12 years old. Moreover, both engines broke down in 10 days. Since repairs are very expensive and almost permanent, it is necessary to invest in at least one of the two renovations,” says Alexandre Pinto, commander of the Bayan Volunteer Firefighters.
Problems that are even stronger when we talk about the innermost municipality of the Porto region.
“Due to the distances we drive, both to the scene of the accident and to the hospital departments, these vehicles cover many kilometers quickly. Each emergency service lasts an average of 2 hours and 30 minutes. Close to central hospitals,” he emphasizes.
Despite the difficulties associated with the territory, Alexandre Pinto emphasizes the need to “accompany the technical training of specialists with the improvement of available means.” That is why he leaves an appeal to the population: “We really need these means of assistance, and we urge the population, despite the huge financial contingencies that exist, to pay attention to this matter. In fact, we are for the population, and in this case, the population is for us.”
“Equip to Save” is the name of the campaign.
