The President of Sporting de Braga assured this Friday that the Minho club is in the running for the title of national football champion, during the Thinking Football summit taking place in Porto.
When asked directly about Sporting Braga’s goal of becoming national champions, Antonio Salvador answered clearly: “Braga have ambitions to become champions. We don’t know when this will happen, but we also don’t have to become champions.
Antonio Salvador also spoke about the current situation of Braga and did not hesitate to put the team at a high level.
“This moment did not happen by chance. We thought about it 20 years ago, when we arrived in Braga and identified three important axes: sporting growth and financial stability, as well as constant participation in European competitions. The third was a sports city. At that time, Sporting Braga had no heritage or operating conditions. But a sports city will be the same no matter what the people who work there are. I think this is one of the brightest moments in the life of the club,” the director began.
Despite this, Antonio Salvador refused to label the club and therefore did not want to call Sporting Braga a “big quarter”. Despite this, he spoke with pride about ambitions and goals.
“I am not going to include Braga in any ranking of Portuguese clubs. What interests me is that we want to achieve more. I want to understand that every day we are improving to be more competitive and improve our position,” the president confirmed.
The President of Sporting Braga also recalled the goals set by the club and which were achieved.
“In June 2022, we gathered the entire Braga universe in a forum to reflect internally on the club and set goals for the coming years. And last year, three teams entered the “Champions”, and this was Braga’s commitment. This was the goal we set for ourselves, and in the end we achieved it. And this year we want to do the same,” he said.
