The Independent Alliance of PSP Agents (SIAP) wants the government to end public support for those detained for assaulting law enforcement officers.
This was stated by Carlos Torres, President of SIAP. CM that the union “considers positive” the legislative measure announced on Tuesday on CMTV by the Minister of Internal Administration (MAI). Let us recall that José Luis Carneiro explained that the executive branch will put forward a legislative proposal to introduce a new crime into the Criminal Code related to causing harm to the physical integrity of members of the security forces and services. The idea, the official assures, is to increase the minimum and maximum prison sentences for this type of aggression. Specifically, the new offense will be punishable by one to four years in prison, a one-year increase in the maximum term and a six-month minimum term for this criminal offense.
However, SIAP wants more. The leadership of the union sent a letter to the MAI, in which it demands the effectiveness of punishments for the attackers, as well as an increase in the use of civil compensation for both the attacking police officer and the institution.
“Just as the European Union stands for institutions or individuals that incite violent behavior, we also ask for the end/suspension of any state support for the aggressor,” concluded Carlos Torres.
Remember that SIAP is one of six PSP unions that have collective bargaining rights with the government under trade union law.
