PS claims von der Leyen failed to talk to those suffering from rising living costs

Socialist MEP Pedro Márquez said this Wednesday that the Commission President’s State of the Union speech lacked concern for people suffering from the rising cost of living.

“I think this speech is politically significant in what it does and what it doesn’t,” Pedro Marques said at the European Parliament (EP) in Strasbourg, France.

The Socialist MEP, who is part of the Social Democrats (S&D) political family, added that Ursula von der Leyen’s intervention was “a complete lack of concern on the part of those suffering from the cost of living crisis, from those suffering from rising housing costs “

“We are very concerned about the lack of a social dimension,” he said.

Pedro Marques recalled that just over two years ago, during the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), a “very ambitious” agenda was set and that today, when many families are suffering from the consequences of rising living costs, von der Leyen “must was important.”

“This is a missed opportunity,” he says.

Despite this, Pedro Márquez stressed that the Commission President has shown that she wants to “move decisively in the direction of the Green Pact”, which is contrary to “the dragging of the European People’s Party, the PSD and the CDS-PP”.
